About Me

Here to help ease the stress of everyday money management.

I'm JR Johnson, a husband, father of 4, financial coach, and real estate agent. I wear many hats. I grew up in a single parent household. Money was never just lying around. I was active in sports as a child. I performed well in basketball and football but not so well in baseball. I thought I had it all. I dreamed about playing in the NBA one day. The basketball community around me knew my name, and I was set. The problem was that I never developed the work ethic to make it happen. I thought I was a sure-in, but I learned that without the work ethic I sure was not. It was a gift and a curse. It allowed me to be where I am today. The relationships that I developed while playing sports are ones that I still have today. I started working my first job at 15 years old. My first check $27.83. I remember my boss telling me that if I saved 10% of every check that I would be a millionaire by age 40. I cashed that check and spent that check and several after. I've made mistakes with money, and I started at age 15. By mistakes, nothing crazy, just obtaining debt but I always paid my bills. I worked that job until age 21. Then, I started a job at a bank. There I learned about different banking products. I met great people working at the bank, both customers and colleagues. During my time at the bank, I realized that most of us need financial guidance at some point in life. I met customers, friends, family, even me, who at some point needed guidance. I decided to go to college. I obtained a business management and business finance degree. A year later, I also earned my real estate license. I've done a ton a research on personal finance, personal credit, business credit, and real estate. My time at the bank familiarized me with banking products. I've also had my personal financial experiences with shortcomings and successes as lessons. I had the tools. I was ready and eager to help the people that I yearned to help. So I started Prep Financial.
